FAQs
Does the NanoFoamer heat my milk?
No. The NanoFoamer textures milk but doesn't heat it. Warm your milk to 55 to 65°C (130 to 160°F) first on the stove, in a FlowTip jug or in the microwave, then foam. If you want heating and foaming in one step, look at the NanoFoamer PRO.
Can it make cold foam?
Yes. It's great for cold foam on iced drinks. For latte art, use warm milk, as cold milk foams too thick to pour designs.
Does it work with oat, almond and soy milk?
Yes. Barista editions of plant milks foam best because they're made to hold bubbles. Results vary by brand, so try a couple.
Which NanoScreen should I use?
Two screens are included: Fine and Superfine. Start with the Fine screen while you learn, as it's more forgiving. Use Superfine for silky flat whites and piccolos, and Fine for thicker cappuccino foam.
How do I get silky microfoam?
1. Fill a narrow jug with at least 3.8cm (1.5in) of warm milk.
2. Submerge the head fully before switching on.
3. Lift it until the impeller sits just below the surface and listen for a gentle hissing. Aerate for 3 to 10 seconds for a flat white, or up to 20 seconds for a cappuccino.
4. Lower the head and move it off-centre to create a whirlpool. Keep it there until the bubbles disappear and the milk turns glossy.

The whole process takes about 20 seconds. Watch the quick start video and the included Lance Hedrick masterclass.
Milk splashes everywhere. What am I doing wrong?
The head is coming too close to the surface or the jug is too wide or too full. Switch on only once the head is submerged, start on low speed (Lithium), use a narrow jug and make small movements. Switch off before lifting the head out.
I'm getting big bubbles or the foam disappears after a minute. Why?
Usually one of four things:
• Too much aeration. Shorten the time the impeller sits at the surface.
• Not enough churning. Spend longer in the whirlpool stage.
• Milk temperature. Too cold gives stiff foam, too hot (over 65°C) breaks down the proteins.
• Old milk. Milk near its use-by date foams poorly even if it's safe to drink. Use fresh milk.
If foam suddenly gets worse after months of good results, check the NanoScreen for milk build-up and clean it.
Can I practise without wasting milk?
Yes. Cold water with a drop of dish soap behaves a lot like milk.
How do I clean it?
Run it for a few seconds in warm soapy water, then rinse. It's IPX-4 splash resistant, so it can be rinsed under the tap from any side. Don't submerge the handle. Not dishwasher safe.
Can I buy spare parts?
Yes. Spare parts are available in the "Accessories" section of our website.

FAQs
How accurate is it?
Accurate to 0.1g (0.01oz) and factory calibrated.
How much does it hold?
About 60g of beans or 120ml of liquid. The display reads up to 99.9g.
Can I pull espresso straight into it?
Yes. The cup is Tritan, which is rated safe for liquids up to 100°C for up to 2 hours and is BPA free.
Is it plastic or metal?
BPA-free Tritan, a premium impact-resistant, food-safe plastic. It is not metal.
Grams or ounces?
Both. Double tap to switch.
How do I turn it on?
Touch the hidden button on the base. The logo flashes, then the display shows the weight. It switches off automatically after 60 seconds.
It doesn't show 0.0 when it wakes up.
Lift the cup and set it down on a flat, level surface, then wake it again. If it keeps happening, recalibrate.
How do I calibrate it?
You need 20g, 50g and 80g calibration weights.

1. Turn it on. While the logo is still flashing, press the button four times and hold. A number with no decimal point appears.
2. Tap again. The display shows "CAL".
3. Place the 20g weight. When it's recognised, remove it.
4. Place the 50g weight, then remove it.
5. Place the 80g weight.
6. "PAS" means calibration is complete.
Can I wash it?
Yes. It's IPX-4 splash resistant, so rinse it under the tap from any side. Don't submerge it. Not Dishwasher Safe.
Why can I see a gap around the base?
The load sensor needs a small amount of movement to weigh accurately, so it can't be fully sealed. The electronics themselves are protected. Wipe the base dry after rinsing.

FAQs
What is WDT and why do I need it?
WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) means stirring your ground coffee with fine needles before tamping. It breaks up clumps and evens out the coffee bed, which reduces channeling and gives a more even, sweeter extraction. It's especially useful with single-dose grinders and bottomless portafilters.
How does the Flick work?
Click the top and the needles pop out. Flick your wrist and a magnet pulls them back inside the aluminium body, so there are no exposed needles to bend or catch on anything.
What needle size does it use?
It ships with 0.5mm needles fitted and includes a set of finer 0.35mm needles. Try both: finer needles move through dense, clumpy grounds more easily.
Will it fit my portafilter?
Yes. It works with any basket size, from 51mm to 58mm, because you stir rather than press.
How do I use it?
1. Grind into your basket (a dosing funnel helps).
2. Click to release the needles.
3. Stir in small circles, reaching the bottom of the basket and working outwards to the edge.
4. Finish with a few light passes across the top, gently tap to settle, then tamp.
5. Flick your wrist to retract the needles.
Troubleshooting
The button has popped up too far:
A screw inside the button has worked loose. Open the tip cap (same as changing the needles) and tighten the screw deep inside with the Allen key.

The needles won't retract or are stuck out:
The screw holding the magnet has loosened. Open the tool and tighten the screw so the magnet sits firmly, then test the flick again.

A needle arrived bent or bent during use:
Replace it with one of the spares. A hard knock in transit can bend a needle, which is why spares are included.
How do I change the needles?
Extend the needles first (important), then open the tip with the Allen key and swap the set. Extending them first stops the needles twisting inside the tool. There's a video guide on the help desk.

FAQs
Does it heat the milk?
Yes. Every program heats and foams at the same time, reaching up to 70°C (±3°C). The screen shows "OK" at 60°C and keeps going to the target temperature. No pre-heating needed.
How much milk does it hold?
~100 to 220ml, enough for one large latte or two small drinks. Use the markings on the flow controller for repeatable volumes.
Does it work with plant milks?
Yes, that's what the flow controllers are for.

Subminimal's own testing:
• MilkLab Almond: excellent with the Blue controller.
• Oatly: smooth with Blue or Green.
• Bonsoy: foams easily with Blue, though soy can curdle a little when it meets acidic espresso.
Can I pour latte art straight from it?
Yes. The spout is shaped for pouring directly into the cup. For detailed designs you can also transfer the milk into a FlowTip jug.
Which flow controller should I use?
Start with Black for dairy. If the vortex looks weak, switch to Blue. For plant milks start with Blue, and only use Green for the most difficult alternatives.
What does the knob on the lid do?
It raises and lowers the magnetic NanoScreen in small clicks (up to 6). Lowering it strengthens the magnetic grip and power, which helps with tricky plant milks. Raising it subdues the foam for small drinks.
My foam is too thick even on level 1.
Use the Black controller, try a slightly larger volume of milk and raise the knob a click to soften the aeration.
It's louder than I expected. Is that normal?
The PRO is louder than a basic frother during the aeration phase. A rattling sound is not normal: seat the lid firmly and lower the knob fully, which keeps the NanoScreen straight.
How do I clean it?
Rinse the inside of the jug straight after use, then wipe the bottom with the included brush. Milk left to dry is much harder to remove. The jug is IPX-5 water resistant but do not fully submerge it. Keep the electrical base dry.
Can I buy spare parts?
Yes: Many parts are available in the "accessories" section of our website. If you need anything that isn't listed feel free to contact us.

FAQs
What makes it good for latte art?
A sharp, narrow spout tip and a smooth neck give a steady, controllable flow for hearts, tulips and rosettas. Every jug comes with access to the Lance Hedrick latte art masterclass.
Can I heat milk in it on the stove?
Yes, (handle version only) on gas and electric stoves.
• Gas: use the smallest flame and keep it away from the handle.
• Electric: sit the jug off-centre so the handle isn't over the heat.
Heat on the lowest setting. It takes about 2 minutes to reach 55 to 65°C. Abrasive electric cooktops can scratch the outside finish, like any pan.
Does it work on induction?
Not directly. Use an induction diffuser plate between the cooktop and the jug.
What are the dots inside the jug?
Reference marks spaced about 75ml (2.5oz) apart. Use them as a guide for consistent volumes, not an exact measure.
My milk burnt on the bottom. How do I avoid that?
Always heat on the lowest setting and clean the jug between batches. Heating a second batch in an unwashed jug burns the residue.
How do I clean it?
Rinse or soak it as soon as you've poured. Use a bottle brush for any stuck milk.

FAQs
Does it heat milk?
No. Like the original, warm your milk to 55 to 65°C first, or use it cold for iced drinks and cold foam.
What do the three attachments do?
• NanoScreen (Superfine): silky microfoam for lattes, flat whites and latte art.
• Whisk / froth impeller: cream, eggs, mousse, mayonnaise and thick cold foam.
• Mixing impeller: protein, collagen, matcha, cocoa and supplement powders.
How long does it run on a single charge?
About 20 minutes of running time, or roughly 14 full 90-second cycles. A drink takes 20 to 30 seconds, so that's a good few weeks of daily use for most people.
Can the battery be replaced?
Yes. It uses a 14430 cell and the help desk has a replacement guide.
How do I clean it?
Spin the attachment under running water or in a cup of warm soapy water, then rinse. It's IPX-4 splash resistant, so splashes on the handle are fine. Don't submerge the handle.
Can I buy spare parts?
Yes. Spares are available in the "accessories" page of our website.
